Study of an Old Man

Inspired by the old masters, Robert Dale Williams studied classical drawing and painting techniques at the New York Academy of Art. After graduating from the Academy in 2004, he continued his studies in Norway where he spent three summers with Odd Nerdrum. With his depictions of suffering individuals in a violent post-apocalyptic world, Williams participated in the first exhibitions of what became known as the Kitsch movement. His work was also published in Kitsch: More Than Art (2011) and The Nerdrum School (2013).

A visiting lecturer at the Susquehanna Art Museum and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Robert Dale Williams joined the Continuing Studies faculty at the New York Academy of Art in 2022, with experience as an instructor of drawing, painting, anatomy, and design courses at six art institutions. Williams's pictures can be found in collections all over the world and he has exhibited in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Norway.
